ActiMot / MoTil System

  • Individual acquisition and analysis of the animal's location, rearing & jumping as well as the hole-board activity.
  • Different spatial resolutions available
  • High scanning rate (up to 100 Hz)
  • For hole board experiments various numbers of holes and hole diameters can be used
  • Special inserts placed into the acrylic cages provide two compartments with a central gate to let the animal pass (e.g. for place preference experiments)
  • Can be combined with our Drinking & Feeding Monitor

The TSE ActiMot / MoTil system is a flexible system for studying open field behavior, hole-board exploration and home-cage activity of small laboratory animals. It can be operated with multiple cage inserts enabling the operator to perform further experimental tasks, e.g. place preference or light / dark experiments. Square-shaped or home-cage shaped frames detect the animal's activity via infrared sensors. Several frames can be stacked on top of each other for advanced open field analysis in several planes.

Hole Board System

  • Rat and mice boards with species-specific hole diameter
  • During the trial the status of each hole and the total number of visits in each hole is displayed
  • User-defined storage interval
  • Online data transfer into an Excel worksheet for further statistical evaluation
  • Optional olfactory stimulus below the holes
  • Optional pellet application in each hole

This space-saving and cost-effective stand-alone hole board system for rats or mice allows evaluation of exploration behavior in up to 16 holes.

InfraMot - Activity System

  • Total activity measurement under stress-free conditions
  • Parallel measurement in a large number of home cages
  • Sensor unit can be easily fastened on any home cage lid
  • Can be operated under any light conditions - even in complete darkness
  • Very short movements can be detected
  • No calibration required

The TSE InfraMot system is designed to register total activity of one or more subjects by sensing the body-heat image, i.e. infrared radiation, and its spatial displacement over time. The system is especially suited for long-term circadian studies - a large number of measuring places can be monitored with a single computer. The sensor assembly is designed to be mounted on top of a home cage but it can also be configured for any other arena such as an operant cage. The wide-angle infrared detector allows rearing events to be included in the activity data - movements with a duration of only a few milliseconds can be reliably detected. The sensor units are easily removed for cleaning purposes.

The system comes with the LabMaster software for setting up the experiment design and for recording and evaluating trial data. The software records total counts during user-defined time intervals. The measured data can be exported into Excel or other standard databases.

As an integral part of our modular LabMaster research platform (Link), the InfraMot units can also be combined with the measurement of numerous other physiological and behavioral parameters such as liquid & food consumption, wheel running behavior or/and metabolic performance.

MOT – Motility Meter

  • Gross activity measurement in home cages
  • Species-specific load cell platforms with varying maximum load
  • Suitable for any home cage size
  • Easy-to-use - no calibration required
  • Generates activity data in user-defined time-intervals

In this easy-to-use activity monitor TSE MOT, movement detection is based on sensitive sensors integrated into a measuring platform that supports cages of any size. Changes in load caused by the animal's movements are converted into time-integrated pulses and accumulated in activity counters. Activity data includes all types of movement including rearing and grooming behavior. The system is especially suited for long-term measurements during circadian studies. The TSE MOT software for Windows provides total counts in user-selected time intervals that can be easily exported for further statistical evaluation.
