Infrared light-beam frames can be used for the detailed measurement of spontaneous home cage activity.
Alternatively, an infrared heat sensor attached to the cage lid can be used for total activity
measurements.
- Activity measurements in three dimensions (ActiMot2), X-Y-Z infrared light-beam frames surrounding the
home cage
- Different frame sizes and spatial resolutions are available, high timing resolution
- Universal use of one frame size for both mice and rats in combination
- No calibration is necessary when using the light-beam frames
- The sensor status is changed by the movement of the animal – permanently interrupted light beams are
ignored
- Both sensor versions – light-beam frames and infrared heat sensor – can be used with both
open home cages and with the calorimetry CaloCages

With the light-beam frames various parameters of the locomotor activity of the animals are determined. Beam
breaks are divided into ambulatory and fine movements; a refractory period can be defined to avoid scratching
or tail flipping being counted. The user can specify a center and a peripheral cage area to define two different
open field areas; data is displayed accordingly.
